Ahmedabad Airport Introduces Domestic-to-Domestic Transfer Facility to Improve Passengers’ Experience.– A domestic transfer facility is now available at Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport, enhancing passenger experience, which includes a dedicated security check area and thus minimizing the wait time, resulting in saving passengers as well as the airline’s valuable time.
The infrastructure for the new transfer facility will allow passengers transferring through Ahmedabad airport to move directly into the departure security hold area after being frisked at a dedicated security check area, which wasn’t there in the past and which is a new feather on the cap for the airport. With the introduction of the new facility, the passengers, upon arrival into Ahmedabad, need not exit the terminal but proceed directly for security in no time and hassle-free transfer for the next flight. The dedicated security check area for transfer passengers can handle approximately 130 passengers per hour.
Currently, around 1 out of 20 passengers arriving at Ahmedabad Airport are transfer passengers, meaning that more than 1500 passengers transfer through Ahmedabad Airport daily, making it a gateway for travelers travelling westward. The new facility for domestic transfer security check area includes one baggage X-ray machine, two frisking booths (one for women and one for men), four Handheld Metal Detectors, one Explosive Trace Detector (ETD) and fifteen CISF personnel deployed in shifts to man the security check area.
The new facility will benefit passengers booked on the same airline for arriving and departing flights. However, those booked on different airlines for the two legs must collect their luggage at the arrival hall, exit the terminal, and proceed to the departure level to complete formalities.
With the new Domestic-to-Domestic transfer Facility in place, passengers who have a boarding pass for their connecting flight need to follow the transfer signboards when arriving at the airport, proceed to the new domestic transfer entry gate to get their belongings checked for security clearance, and wait at the boarding gate of their connecting flight.
Passengers who don’t have a boarding pass for their connecting flight can check with the airline officials for the procedure to obtain one. Meanwhile, if there is ample time before their connecting flight, passengers can shop, eat, relax, and enjoy various conveniences available at the airport. With this facility in place, the airline benefits greatly by connecting more cities with reduced MCT (minimum connecting time).
