Though known as one of the largest industrial centers in the west of India, Ahmedabad is also a destination for a number of MSMEs in the fields of gems, jewelry, as well as denim. Recognizing the city’s profound enterprising culture, eBay India’s leading online export marketplaces has provided the city’s MSMEs a platform to sell online to the world and is committed to making Ahmedabad a global destination for such products.

One such seller is Ahmedabad’s Mohammadzafar Saiyed, whose crystal healing and home products business has seen immense success due to eBay’s solutions and seller support. Interestingly, Saiyed’s journey with the platform did not start out as one in the crystal healing space — back in 2009 when he joined hands with eBay, Saiyed initially sold postal stamps and coins on the platform.

However, it was access to eBay’s purchase trends that led him to realize the potential in selling Agate Stone and has managed to achieve a Gross Merchandise Value of $35,000 in the last quarter on 2020 alone.

Commenting on his experience with eBay, Mohammadzafar Saiyed said, “Before eBay, approaching the right buyers for my products was extremely challenging. However, thanks to the team’s detailed consumer insights, and the platform’s access to cross border trade, I can now target the right customers in the right markets and take my business to the next level.”

Sohil Noorani of Bhavnagar is also a seller who found success with eBay. In the three years of his association with the platform, his industrial supplies and tools business saw an 270% year on year growth.

It was eBay’s various initiatives for sellers — such as promoted listings, incentive programs, and third-party tools — that allowed Noorani’s business to gain more visibility across countries like USA, UK and other European markets.

Speaking about his association with eBay, Sohil Noorani said, “After joining eBay, my business saw tremendous growth, locally and in international markets too, due to cross border trade. The eBay team taught me so much with regards to handling sales, proactive approaches post sales, best practices and more. If it wasn’t for eBay, my business wouldn’t be where it is today.”

On the platform’s focus on growing Ahmedabad’s MSME base, Vidmay Naini, Country Manager, eBay India said, “We define our success by the success of our sellers, and we are committed to enabling the entrepreneurs in Ahmedabad to help the city makes its mark on the global e-commerce map.   Also, we are committed to equipping the city’s MSMEs with training on platform tools, shipping solutions and account management support that will allow them to scale new heights.”

eBay has been working closely with small and medium enterprises in the city to help them grow their business in the international market by selling their products on the platform. This has helped sellers boost their visibility through presence in international markets, recognize purchase trends, and identify consumer purchase patterns and preferences.
